Lego Pirates

Lego Pirates – Making the Right Purchase

by First Mate, Sandra Johnson

Ahoy Matey! Arghh! Shiver me timbers!

Which is the best way of ensuring that your kids have maximum fun and joy when playing with the blocks of pirates you buy for them?

Some of the best Lego Pirates Sets;

Pirate Lookout, 1992

Pirates Gun Cart, 1993

Cross Bone Clipper, 1997

Pirate Mini Figures, 1990

Imperial Flagship, 1992

Caribbean Clipper, 1989

Armada Flagship, 1996

Black Seas Barracuda, 1989

Pirates Perilous Pitfall, 1997

Skull`s Eye Schooner, 1993

Red Beard Runner, 1996

*Most of the above sets you will need to try to find on eBay or Amazon.com. Some you will find in your local toy or hobby store, but that is probably rare. Most of the above sets are fairly old now.

People often make the mistake of presuming that buying the maximum number of pirate blocks for kids is the best way to proceed. More often than not, this only creates more problems than it solves.

For starters, kids get overwhelmed by the sheer number of blocks and fail to pay attention to the basics. The basic idea behind Lego is to let one's creativity loose and have some fun with one`s imagination.

This means that the number of blocks should be limited and kids should be encouraged to experiment more and more. It is only when you feel that the imagination of your kid has reached the saturation point should you introduce additional blocks.

Just take a look at the popular pirates sets by Lego, available in the market. The addition of a single pirate figure into the existing set can make a huge difference. As kids shift from land to sea and as the story line incorporates more and more pirate action, you can gift a full fledged pirate ship to your kids.

We own a few pirate ships in our house and they are a lot of fun for imagining what went on, on the high seas. When pirates sailed in search of gold throughout the Caribbean.

Not only will Lego help you assess the imagination and creativity of your kids better, it will also help you reduce how much you spend on toys, as Lego can be played with over and over again.

By making it together, you can bond with your child. This is much better than having them plunked in front of the TV.

Going in for a full fledged ship can cost you anywhere from a small treasure arghh!!!! - $200. There is no harm in making sure that the investment you make is worth the effort.

The kids should love the idea of the addition of a much needed ship to their set. To simply gift the boat without finding out whether kids need it or are keen on playing with it will only lead to complications.

If your children enjoy pirate stories and movies about pirates,it is probably a safe bet they will enjoy pirates by Lego too.

Hence, make it a point to choose your pirates carefully after adequate thought and analysis. In short, make sure your children will be interested in it for a while to come. Lego is great, but it is an investment.

Hint: By buying Lego on sale, and after Christmas, you will often save money. Seems obvious perhaps, but how many of us consistently do this? She looks at herself disgustedly.
