Lego Baseplate

Indeed the Lego Baseplate is the foundation for any Lego scene or large building.

With Lego - Lay a Solid foundation for your Dreams

Most of the Lego fans know what a base plate is. For those of you, who do not know what it is, I can simply say that it is the foundation or solid base over which you can build up your Lego structures. You can work without a base plate, but if you have one, it makes things much easier for you.

The base plate is a large Lego component, which is thinner than the normal Lego and it has stubs only on the upper side. You cannot afix bricks to the underside as it has not studs on the bottom. Indeed the Lego base plate gives stability and strength to your structure.

Lego provides various styles, shapes and sizes for the base plates as well. There are simple ones that do not have any design and you can exercise your own creativity on them, while there are others that have dots to serve as guidelines, so that you can easily make a pre-laid structure.

However, on the latter ones you can also make structures of your own choosing. If your kid is too small to think of something himself get him the dotted board, at least he would learn how to put the pieces together.

Creativity never ends with Lego. Lego makes base plates as small as 10x10 cm2 and as large as 15x15 inch2. The smaller ones are for the children to play with, and the larger ones are for architects and designers to try out their designs at a very economical price.

Lego definitely takes care of all people, not only the kids but the adults. Lego also offers a variety of colors in base plates, so that you can match one with your design easily.

My son Jonah just bought many base plates along with more Star Wars Lego. He is using the base plates to create scenes for the stop-action lego movies he is making. So the base plates have many different purposes.

If you are thinking to buy your child Lego, then do get him a nice Lego baseplate to start his brainstorming. By doing so you can give him a foundation on which he can lay his ideas, he might become the architect or engineer of the future.
